Lights, camera, action! This week at Nanchang International School, captivating scenes of growth have been playing out. Our kindergarten stars featured in “Exploration Diaries,” while the primary school blockbuster “Idea Lab” showcased incredible creativity. Pre-Nursery(Bunny Class)
Story Time:WInter Fun and Big Dog,Little Dog

在幼儿阅读课上,我们从两岁起就开始培养宝贝对书籍和语言的热爱!本周我们共读了两本精彩绘本——《冬日趣事》和《大狗小狗》。这些读物巧妙地向孩子们展现了贴近生活的趣味情境,帮助他们接触新词汇和简单句式。

In our reading class for 2-year-olds, we’re building a love of books and language from the very start! This week, we enjoyed two wonderful stories — Winter Fun and Big Dog, Little Dog. These books help introduce children to new words, simple sentences, and fun ideas they can understand and relate to.

课堂上,老师用英语声情并茂地朗读故事,引导小听众们专注倾听。这种听觉熏陶不仅能培养孩子们对语音、词汇和语律的敏感度,更有助于延长专注时间,点燃想象力的火花。

During class, the children are encouraged to listen carefully as the teacher reads aloud in English. Listening to stories helps them develop early language skills, such as recognizing sounds, words, and rhythm in speech. It also builds their attention span and sparks their imagination!

Even though our young learners are just beginning their English journey, they are already showing excitement when they see familiar pictures and hear favorite phrases. Parents can support this growth at home by reading together every day — even a few minutes makes a big difference.

Nursery(Butterfly Class)

Rainbow Raindrops:Collaboration and Discovery in Butterfly(Art)

在Butterfly班的艺术课堂上,我们秉承”过程艺术”教育理念,注重创作体验而非最终成品。本周的艺术课堂化身为色彩探索的奇妙实验室,孩子们在《小老鼠学画画》《混合颜料》等经典绘本的启发下,携手创作了集体作品《彩虹雨滴》。

In our Butterfly (nursery) class, we embrace the educational philosophy of process art, where the experience of creating holds more value than the final product. For this week, we transformed the art class into a vibrant laboratory for scientific and artistic inquiry about color! Building on their prior knowledge from projects and stories like “Mouse Paint” and “Mixed”, our young learners embarked on a collaborative masterpiece: “Rainbow Raindrops.”

孩子们两两一组,在铺着巨幅画纸的长桌旁,化身为探索色彩的小小科学家。他们手持滴管,面对盛有三原色的颜料杯,开始了有趣的实验:既要小心翼翼地保持基础色的纯净,又忍不住在滴落、混合的瞬间,惊叹于色彩变化的奇妙。在这片广阔的创作天地里,孩子们自由地穿梭、主动地交流,不仅锻炼了肢体协调性,更在共享空间与材料的过程中,学到了宝贵的协作精神。

Working in pairs at large, paper-covered tables, the children became color scientists. Their tools? Color-coded pipettes and cups of primary colors. This required a principled approach to keep colors pure, while the act of dropping and mixing paint fostered a joyful inquirer and risk-taker spirit. The large-scale format encouraged dynamic movement and negotiation, nurturing essential collaboration skill.

而课程中最令孩子们兴奋的环节,莫过于直接用小手调色!当指尖蘸满颜料,当色彩在掌心交融,抽象的调色原理瞬间变成了可触摸的魔法。这种充满乐趣的触觉体验,不仅满足了幼儿对感官探索的渴望,更让他们与艺术材料建立起了无比亲密的联系。

The lesson culminated in a celebrated sensory finale: mixing colors by hand! This purposeful, tactile exploration deepened their connection to the material, satisfying a developmental need for sensory input and making the abstract concept of color mixing an unforgettable, hands-on experience.

 

Pre-K(Panda Class)

Math

本周的数学课堂上,我们的小学员们继续深化对数字0-20的认知,重点探索了”多一个”与”少一个”的数量关系。

This week in Math, our Pre-K students continued to strengthen their number sense by exploring the concept of “one more” and “one less” within numbers 0–20.

通过计数小熊、立方块等教具的实际操作,孩子们在”添一”与”减一”的动手实践中直观理解数量的变化规律。我们借助数轴辅助抽象思维,让数字的排列顺序变得可视化。

Through hands-on activities using manipulatives such as counting bears and cubes, children practiced adding one more and taking one away to understand how numbers increase and decrease. We also used number lines to visually support their thinking and help them see how numbers are ordered.

随着课程深入,孩子们分组进入学习站,通过数字拼图、橡皮泥捏数字、感官箱任务等趣味活动,在游戏中巩固计数、数认与书写能力。这些精心设计的场景既激发独立探索精神,又培养团队协作意识。

Later in the week, the students worked in small groups and learning stations designed to reinforce their skills in counting, number recognition, and number writing. At these stations, they engaged in playful activities such as number puzzles, playdough numbers, and sensory table challenges, all encouraging independent exploration and cooperation with peers.

It was wonderful to see the children becoming more confident with identifying and explaining what comes before and after a given number. We are very proud of their progress and growing curiosity about numbers!

本周,Koala班的小朋友们通过充满趣味性的动手操作,开启了奇偶数的探索之旅!在老师的引导下,孩子们自主选取彩色串珠并独立分装到小碗中。通过亲身体验,他们主动发现并总结了奇偶数内在的排列规律——抽象的数学概念由此化为了可触摸的乐趣。

This week, Koala Class dived into odd and even numbers with joyful hands-on activities! Guided by teachers, the children picked colorful beads and sorted them into bowls independently. Through this interactive practice, they actively explored and discovered the inherent arrangement rules of odd and even numbers on their own—turning abstract math concepts into tangible fun.

为深化对数字顺序排列的理解,我们开展了热闹的“爆米花配对游戏”。孩子们在欢笑声中完成数字配对,在游戏中巩固了对数列规律的掌握。

To deepen their understanding of number sequence sorting, we played an exciting “Popcorn Matching Game.” Laughter filled the classroom as the kids matched numbers, reinforcing their grasp of sequences in a playful way.

更令人惊喜的是,小朋友们还根据自己的理解创作了各具特色的“奇偶怪兽”。每只怪兽身上装饰着他们精选的奇数或偶数元素,展现着孩子们对知识点的独特理解与盎然兴趣。

Additionally, the children showcased their creativity by making “Odd/Even Monsters” based on their preferences. Each unique monster, decorated with their chosen odd or even number elements, reflected their comprehension and love for the topic.

Tigers Create a Healthy Living Comic! (UOI)

Tiger班的小学员们正在为本单元总结活动创作主题漫画,他们将用绚丽的画作向全校传递健康生活的重要性。在热火朝天的讨论与协作中,孩子们尽情发挥创意,描绘出各自对健康生活的理解。

As part of their end-of-unit action, the Tiger Class has begun creating a vibrant comic book to share the importance of a healthy lifestyle with our learning community. Through active discussion and teamwork, the students used their creativity to express what healthy living means to them.

Patters  Everywhere

在Lion班的跨学科课堂上,孩子们正探索着数学与诗歌的奇妙共鸣!作为”规律”主题数学探究单元的总结活动,小学员们将所学模式知识运用到了童谣韵律分析中。通过赏析经典童谣《小星星》,孩子们率先发现了诗歌中的押韵规律,随后又共同挑战苏斯博士的《戴高帽的猫》——他们兴奋地发现每一页都藏着工整的AABB韵式结构。受此启发,这些小诗人开始创作属于自己的押韵规律,下一步还将谱写原创诗歌!当数学逻辑遇见文学韵律,孩子们在文字排列中发现了规律之美,在节奏变换里感受到模式之趣。这样的融合课堂,正悄然孕育着未来诗人与数学家的双重种子。

Lions are learning how Math and English can work together through an interdisciplinary lesson on patterns in poetry. As a culminating task for their latest math inquiry unit on patterns, the students are applying their gained knowledge about patterns by identifying rhyming patterns in stories and nursery rhymes. After reviewing rhymes, they found rhyming patterns in the nursery rhyme “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star” and then tackled Dr. Seuss’s The Cat in the Hat – finding the AABB patterns on each page. Drawing inspiration from Dr. Seuss, they then created their own rhyming patterns. The next step will be writing their own poems! .

Literacy

本周,我们聪慧的Bear班学生深入探究了”我们如何用图文表达自我”的主题。在语言素养课上,孩子们尽情舒展想象力,创作出丰富多彩的修辞范例——无论是极具张力的夸张手法、生动传神的拟人化表达,还是意蕴深长的隐喻。当每位学生从自己创作的三组精彩语句中精选出最得意的表达后,他们又将这些抽象文字转化为充满奇思妙想的画作。这个创作过程完美展现了孩子们如何将创意思维与表达能力相融合,生动印证了”创意表达是双向奔赴的旅程:语言为钥匙,艺术为锁孔”的真谛。

Our brilliant Bear students dove deep into their current Unit of Inquiry this week, focusing on how we express ourselves through both words and images. The literacy lesson challenged students to stretch their imaginations by crafting strong examples of figurative language—such as exaggerated hyperbole, dramatic personification, or striking metaphors. After generating three powerful phrases, each student selected their absolute favorite and transformed that abstract concept into a stunning, imaginative drawing. This process beautifully demonstrated how our young learners are connecting their creative minds to their skills, truly proving that creative expression is a two-way street where language is the key and art is the lock.

在单元探究活动中,学生们深入研习了自己钟爱的欧洲名画,并最终呈现了一场精彩纷呈的班级拍卖会。这个项目生动诠释了IB教育理念:孩子们通过调研艺术形式、建立与画作的情感联结,真正成为了积极探究、知识渊博的学习者。他们精心设计海报并撰写拍卖陈述,锻炼了有效沟通的能力,清晰阐述了对画作价值的独到见解。这场别开生面的拍卖会印证了我们的核心教学理念——接触多元艺术形式能有效激发创意表达与批判性思维,让原本抽象的”艺术价值”概念化为可触可感的生动体验。

Students embarked on an in-depth inquiry into their favourite European masterpiece, culminating in a vibrant class auction. This project authentically embodied the IB philosophy: students acted as inquirers and knowledgeable learners through their research, analysing artistic form and making personal connections to their chosen work. The creative poster design and auction pitch required them to be effective communicators, articulating their unique perspective on the artwork’s value. They presented their opinions on artistic merit. The auction itself served as a powerful demonstration of our central idea, showing how exposure to diverse art forms directly fuels creative expression and critical thinking, making the abstract concept of ‘value’ in art a tangible and engaging learning experience.

Sixth Grade(Dragon Class)

From Individual Parts to Ensemble Performance (Music)

Dargon班为冬季汇演准备的音乐之旅已正式启航!本次我们将挑战约翰·威廉姆斯创作的经典之作——《哈利波特》主题曲”海德薇变奏曲”。通过精心编排,我们将用金属琴、钟琴与电钢琴组成璀璨乐团,让每个孩子都在演绎这首魔法旋律中闪耀独特光芒。

Dragon class has officially begun their musical journey in preparation for our upcoming Winter Show! We are thrilled to be tackling a truly iconic piece: “Hedwig’s Theme” from Harry Potter, composed by the legendary John Williams. Our arrangement brings this magical melody to life using a shimmering ensemble of metallophones, glockenspiels, and electric piano, giving each student a vital role in the performance.

比起最终演出,更珍贵的是孩子们在排练中的收获:从最初根据谱例与教学视频扎实掌握个人声部,到如今进入最激动人心的合奏阶段——当所有声部开始交织共鸣,孩子们逐渐领悟到合奏的真谛:他们需要精准数拍确保进场时机,仔细聆听各声部以平衡强弱动态,更深刻理解自己手中乐器如何共同编织出立体的音乐脉络。

The learning process is as valuable as the final product. Students first mastered their individual parts by diligently following music scores and tutorial videos, ensuring confidence and accuracy. Now, we have entered the most exciting phase: assembling all the parts together. This collaborative effort teaches essential ensemble skills, such as counting carefully to know precisely when to enter, actively listening to other parts to balance dynamics, and understanding the unique role their instrument plays in creating the overall texture of the music.

 

每一周的结束,都是新旅程的起点。为孩子们本周的每一点进步喝彩,也期待他们在接下来的日子里带来更多精彩。
