The UOI theme of “Where we are in Place and Time” for this unit focused mainly on Houses and homes and how they have evolved throughout the years. In order for our little nursery learners to understand the different aspects of home environments, we broke the unit down into the following sub-headings ‘Parts of a house’ which focused on the different rooms of the home eg. bedroom for sleeping and dining room for eating . We also focused on who lives in our homes and the roles they play. The next topic looked at ‘Homes around the world’ that focused on the different types of homes worldwide and how they are suited to their unique climates eg. igloos house Eskimos and are made of ice in the snow. We then looked at Animal homes and the special homes that our pets, farm animals and wild animals live in eg. Lions live in a den. We also looked at how homes are built and used the story of the Three Little Pigs to help the students understand these concepts.
